This handsome young man is Guinness, our 1 year old Australian Cattle Dog mix.  He's got a lot of energy and affection for people.  Cattle Dogs are one of the most intelligent breeds and need to be part of the action! They are loyal, protective and alert. An excellent guard dog. Brave and trustworthy. Very good in the obedience ring as well as in herding and agility. Can be obedience trained to a very high level. Firm training from the start and a lot of daily leadership, along with daily mental and physical exercise will produce a fine and happy pet.  Australian Cattle Dogs are absolutely loyal and obedient to their master, but are sometimes a one-person dog.  Obedience training, a 6 foot privacy fence, and children 6+ are required for Guinness.  Come meet this lively fellow! Guinness is present on Sundays for interviews, but on Wednesdays, please call for an appointment.

Kira is a beautiful young lady.  She is a Yellow Laborador / American Staffordshire Terrier mix.  At 1 year old, she is very playful, yet loving.  She likes to snuggle and be pet and showered with affection.  She walks well on a leash, is house trained, and yearning for her forever home with a loving family.  Could that family be yours?  To be a good match for Kira, you need to be prepared by having a fenced yard, have children that are 7 or over, and agree to take Kira to obedience training to help her be the most perfect pet!  Come see for yourself how pretty and sweet our Kira is.

Teddy is a very unique looking puppy!  He is a Dachshund and American Eskimo mix who is 5 months old.  He’s sweet as pie and loves to play – as any puppy should.  This little angel has been house trained and acclimated with other dogs and gets along wonderfully. He is very affectionate and loves to cuddle but is in no way insecure. He seems very comfortable within his own self. He is also ready and eager to learn and please. He's just a really good boy ! His children should be 7 and up.  Please come in to meet Teddy – it’s hard on a puppy to be cooped up in a kennel environment.  He needs to be in a home and bonding with his new family!

This sweet girl is Dolly.  She is a Jack-a-Bee (Jack Russell Terrier/Beagle) or possibly a Harrier.  Whatever breed she may be, she’s precious!  Dolly is about 1 year old and very playful and snuggly.  Her markings are a beautiful copper color and she’s SO soft.  Children who live with Dolly should be at least 5 years old and Dolly’s yard should have a 6 foot privacy fence so she can play safely.  Obedience training is required for this little lady so that she becomes even better behaved.  Please come in during adoption hours and spend a little time with Dolly – she will steal your heart!

Bonita - is a precious, little angel!  She is a 1 year old female Chihuahua who is calm, quiet, affectionate, and loves to be cuddled.  Children at Bonita’s house should be 8+ and she would like a home where she isn’t left alone for long periods of time.  She loves human companionship – more than that of other dogs.  Included here is some breed research that might prove helpful: The Chihuahua is a good companion dog. Courageous, extremely lively, proud and adventurous, they enjoy affection. Chihuahua 's can be strong-willed without the proper human leadership. Socialize them well. Do not let the Chihuahua get away with things you would not allow a large dog to do (Small Dog Syndrome), such as jumping up on humans. While it may be cute for a 5 pound tiny dog to put his paws on your leg when you come home from work, it is allowing a dominant behavior. If you allow this little dog to be your pack leader they will developed many behavior issues, such as jealousy, aggression with other dogs and sometimes with humans, and will become undeniably suspicious of people except for their owner. This breed is generally not recommended for children, not because they are not good with them, but because most people treat the Chihuahua differently than they would a large dog, causing them to become untrustworthy. Because of their size, this breed tends to be babied and things we humans clearly see as bad behavior for a large dog is looked over as cute with a small dog. Small dogs also tend to be walked less, as humans assume they get enough exercise just running around during the day. However a walk provides more than just exercise. It provides mental stimulation, and satisfies the migration instinct, all dogs have. Because of this, small breeds such as the Chihuahua tend to become snappish, yappy, protective, and untrustworthy with kids and humans they do not know. Chihuahua 's who are their human's pack leader tend to be fairly dog-aggressive. An owner who realizes this and treats the Chihuahua no differently than they would a large breed, becoming a clear pack leader, will get a different, more appealing temperament out of this wonderful little dog, finding them to be good little child companions.

Max is our 5 year old Rat Terrier.  He is super sweet and loves to play with toys.  Max is affectionate and likes getting positive attention from his human companions.  He gets along well with other small dogs.  Children in Max’s home should be 5 years or older.  The Rat Terrier is an intelligent, alert and loving dog. They are very inquisitive and lively. This affectionate dog makes an excellent companion for those who will enjoy an energetic dog. They are good with children. They are, for the most part friendly with strangers. Rat Terriers make good watchdogs. These dogs are quick and very playful and are not yappers. The temperament of these dogs is pure terrier. The lively, feisty, fearless nature can be found in the best of terriers. They are eager to please and respond and pick training up faster than most dogs. The Rat terrier is a very well mannered, well rounded dog. They are very eager to learn and to please their owner. They love to go with you and to do what you do.

This is Benny, our 1 year old male Beagle.  He is a great all-around dog!  He’s very smart and playful and he’s enjoying all the positive attention he’s receiving here at Humane Haven.  He is gentle and sweet natured.  Benny would like his new home to have a fenced yard so he can play safely and he’d like to live with children who are 7 years or older.  Obedience training would be a good idea for Benny – it would boost his confidence and help him bond more with his new owner(s).

REMEMBER: A dog is not a toy or an object, it is a living, loving, caring, FEELING being. Adoption means making him/her an important part of your family, and committing to it's care for ALL of the rest of it's life.
